When dogs are nervous, they wander around, like if they circle the problem long enough, someone will take pity on them and solve it. He does his best to keep up the appearances of being busy, saying something about sure, grab your stuff and then preparing to potter around until she's ready - but what he's really doing is watching what she takes and what she leaves.
